Unit 2 Course Guide

When you work on the internet assignments it may be helpful to open a second browser window.  That way you can access the web site in one window and keep this page open to type in your answers in the other window.

Internet Assignment - Atoms

Go To "The Atom Builder" site.  Follow the link below.

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/aso/tryit/atom/#

Read the initial page and look at the three guides.

Try the atom builder activity.

You need Shockwave to make it work.  There is a link on the initial page.
It's free and it's a pretty useful plug-in.

It seems that the Atom Builder Activity is not working too well at the moment.  I have contacted PBS (We'll see what happens).  The good news is that even if you can't make the Atom Builder Activity work, you can still get the information you need to answer the questions through the reading.

Answer the following questions and submit the results.

Name:

Course:

1.  Quarks are the building blocks for which two subatomic particles?

Protons
Neutrons
Electrons

2.  How many and which type of quarks make up a ...

Neutron =

3.  What happens when your atom has an unequal number of protons and electrons?

Go Back to the initial page.
Follow one of the "People and Discoveries" links.

4.  Who did you choose?

5.  Tell me one interesting thing about that person. (Nothing lame like the year they were born.)

Click the submit button when you are finished.
