I remember discussing with Penny the possibility of the nursing students joining her on a mission trip to Haiti! After much planning and many meetings, Penny was able to make this happen. In Penny’s first meeting with us, she introduced Schools for Haiti, and the work her family and community has done for the people of Haiti. After listening to and watching Penny’s presentation and seeing the photos of the children, schools, and orphanages in Haiti, I knew that this mission trip was something that I was very interested in!
The last semester of school was quite busy with family, school, preparing for the NCLEX exam, looking for jobs, and preparing for the trip to Haiti. My family has been very supportive of this trip, and has even donated money to make this trip possible for me.

Not only am I looking forward to teaching the Haitian people, I am also looking forward to learning about and experiencing the Haitian culture and health care system. I know I will learn to be even more thankful for the little things in my life!
I am beyond excited to have the opportunity to go on the mission trip to Haiti. I believe Schools for Haiti has established amazing things for the people of Haiti, and I am honored and excited to be part of this group that has accomplished such wonderful things!
Dear Tricia,
I am so happy you are all safe and sound. You are with a perfect group of nurse leaders to have an excellent experience! I thank you and your fellow students for being such pioneers, and am especially grateful that you are SW Tech nurse graduates! I can’t wait to hear about your adventures. Stay safe and thank you for your participation!
Katie
I hope and pray that your experience “leaks” or “pours” on to others and they can get excited about the work in Haiti and want to take a trip. Maybe sometime we can take the auto mechanic students from SWTC down or the Computer Tech people, they would be as busy as the hospital is, no end to the work of fixing cars and computers in Haiti.
