This post was written by all the weary travelers to Haiti after their day.
Imagine standing in front of 54 nursing students in 103 degree weather, sweat running down every part of your body, they don’t understand a word you say, but you love every minute of it. Your lunch that same day is spent in the back of a Tap Tap (Haitian Taxi) eating a two day old sandwich and crackers that you do not know the origin of, and there is still a smile on your face. Your next job is to assess forty orphans in an open air, non-breezy, clinic with sweat running through your gluteal crease. Believe it or not there is still a smile on your face. After assessing the orphans they braid your hair, fan your sweating body, and then you are touched more than you will in the rest of your life. This is just a day in the life of SWTC nurses while on their trip to Haiti. The sights, sounds, and smells of Haiti are something you can only experience. Impossibly simple things turn into gifts for the Haitian children. A simple cardboard box becomes a fan, an extension cord becomes a jump rope, and a pop can becomes a car. Despite the overuse of talcum powder and mosquito spray it is still the most wonderful life experience you can imagine.
these are wonderful, makes me smile through the tears.
