Fundraising

Fundraising is an essential part to our cause. The proceeds from our fundraisers go back to the eight students traveling to Haiti and they will help offset our trip fees.

We have had two fundraisers so far; it is unsure if there will be another in the near future. Our first fundraiser was at Steve’s Pizza in Cuba City. It was such a fun experience and also a learning experience. Only one of the eight students had worked as a waitress; we were extremely thankful that Dani could step up to the plate and get the job done efficiently. There would have been some frustrated customers without her! A lot of us had to deliver pizzas to homes in the surrounding area. Since many of us are not from the area, it was definitely interesting. We got lost here and there, but it was a great time. Many of us don’t spend time with each other outside of the classroom; I feel that this experience allowed us to get to know each other better on a personal level. Our second fundraiser was one we held at Southwest Tech and it was a luncheon. We served a hot beef and pork sandwich, a bag of chips, a dessert, and a can of soda. This fundraiser took a lot more planning than the other one. In order to make this a great fundraiser, we all had to work together to figure out what needed to be done for the fundraiser such as gathering supplies, food, and advertising the event. We had a successful turnout and it was great to see all the support from fellow students and staff. And the food was excellent, if I do say so myself.

It has truly been a great time fundraising for our cause; it has enabled all of us to get to know one another better before our trip. If believe we have a strong group; we worked together very well during our fundraisers and that increased my confidence that we will work well together in Haiti. Haiti will be the experience of a lifetime and I’m thankful to be sharing it with this group.
