Clay target team wins spring conference season

Fennimore -

It was another successful season for the Southwest Wisconsin Technical College Clay Target Team. The team recently completed the spring season in the Large Team division of the USA Clay Target League, taking first place. There are 48 colleges included in the six conferences.

“The spring season went great,” said Matt Schneider, co-coach and advisor. “We had 24 athletes who competed, and this was one of our most cohesive spring seasons. Our fall season is our bigger season, with travel, and spring seems to be smaller and more low-key. This group did not see it that way and competed hard for that conference championship. Dan (Imhoff), Mia (Hillebrand), and I are very proud of the effort they all put in.”

The Chargers had several males and females in the top 10 for the spring season. Cooper Subjek, from Melrose, tied for first place. Jake Ward, from Black River Falls, finished in fourth place, followed by Eli Muckler, from Lone Rock, and Owen Callahan, from Mount Hope, who tied for seventh place.

On the female side, Maya Schroeder, from Dodgeville, placed third, while Taya Hatfield, from Lone Rock, took fifth place.

Alfred State College (New York), University of Minnesota–Crookston, Willston State College (North Dakota), and Maine Maritime Academy, round out the top five teams.

In addition to the spring conference season, the team assisted with the annual High School Invitational Trapshoot, which was held at the Muscoda Sportsman’s Club on May 3. “They really stepped up to help us with our high school invite event that had 305 athletes from 31 teams,” said Schneider.

The team will again be competing in the USA College Clay Target League this fall. “The national championship event will be the end of October in Southern Illinois,” said Schneider. “We are excited with the group coming in as we will also be losing some of our veteran team members as they graduated last Saturday.”
