Droessler sets sites on Criminal Justice career

Cuba City High School senior will enroll this Fall

Cuba City -

When Maddie Droessler walks across the stage at Cuba City High School in May, she will already be looking ahead to her next step – beginning the Criminal Justice program at Southwest Wisconsin Technical College this fall.

Droessler, 17, has long been interested in law enforcement and the justice system. She said her curiosity was sparked by documentaries and crime-related shows, but it grew deeper through conversations at home. “I’ve always had an interest in investigation and solving crimes,” she said. “I also just want to do something that helps people and keeps people safe.”

Although no one in her immediate family works in the field, her father briefly studied criminal justice in college. Talking with him about his experience helped affirm her decision to pursue the path herself.

Currently enrolled in an Intro to Psychology dual credit course through Southwest Tech, Droessler is getting an early start on her college education while finishing her senior year. She said touring the campus solidified her choice. “Everyone there seemed very helpful and like they really want me to succeed,” she said. “The housing is very nice, and it’s close enough to home that I can come back on weekends.”

Droessler plans to live in student housing, a decision she said will allow her to fully experience college life while remaining within 40 minutes of her family in Cuba City.

After completing her associate degree at Southwest Tech, Droessler intends to transfer to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville to earn a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or a related field. Long term, she is considering several options, including law enforcement or social work.

“I’ve always wanted to help people through hard times,” she said. “Everyone should feel safe at home and have a place where they can relax and not feel stressed.”

While she has not yet completed a ride-along, Droessler has one scheduled with the Cuba City Police Department after connecting with an officer during a recent career day at her high school.

With a clear sense of purpose and a commitment to serving others, Droessler said she is eager to begin her studies this fall and explore the many pathways within the criminal justice field.
