Prinz Turns Inspiration into Nursing Career

Earns Prestigious DAISY Award

Fennimore -

Recent Southwest Wisconsin Technical College nursing graduate Bobbi Prinz, 27, was recognized with the prestigious DAISY Award on May 15, honoring her compassion, dedication and commitment to patient care.

Prinz, 27, a native of Gays Mills, completed Southwest Tech’s nursing program this spring and now works on the medical-surgical unit at Southwest Health in Platteville. The award recognizes nurses who go above and beyond in providing exceptional clinical care and compassion to patients and families. The international recognition program was created by The DAISY Foundation and is based on nominations from patients, families and colleagues.

For Prinz, the path to nursing began during one of the most important moments of her life.

After graduating from North Crawford High School in 2017, she attended the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and pursued a degree in psychology. However, her career plans changed after the birth of her daughter during the COVID-19 pandemic. “It was my nurse when I was in labor that made me want to be a nurse,” she aid. “She was just amazing. I thought, ‘Why don’t you do what she did?’”

Prinz chose Southwest Tech after hearing positive experiences from her mother, who earned multiple degrees from the college. “My mom talked about how amazing it was and all the great things they do for students,” she said.

While completing the rigorous nursing program, Prinz balanced family responsibilities and welcomed a second child. “It took me a little bit longer than the average student, but I met so many amazing people,” she said. “I actually had a second baby while I was going through the program.”

Today, Prinz finds herself working at the same hospital where she gave birth to her children and first discovered her passion for nursing. “All my coworkers feel like a family,” she said. “I get to work right alongside the providers who delivered both my kids.”

Prinz said receiving the DAISY Award was both unexpected and emotional, especially because it was presented by her best friend. “I wasn’t expecting it,” she said.

Looking ahead, Prinz hopes to continue her career at Southwest Health and eventually transition into labor and delivery nursing. What she enjoys most about the profession remains simple. “I enjoy advocating for people and making their lives better,” she said.
