United Fund of Iowa County awards $5,000 to Southwest Tech Foundation

Fennimore -

The Southwest Wisconsin Technical College Foundation has been awarded a generous $5,000 grant from the United Fund of Iowa County. These funds will directly support wraparound student success services for Iowa County students, helping to reduce barriers and empower students on their path to graduation and family-sustaining careers. 

The award will enhance services such as: 

• Katie’s Cupboard, the on-campus food pantry 

• Feed-A-Charger meal card program 

• Fuel-A-Charger gas card assistance 

• Free mental health counseling 

• Academic tutoring 

“At the United Fund of Iowa County, we believe that investing in people is the most powerful way to strengthen our communities,” said Donna Peterson, board chair, United Fund of Iowa County. “We are proud to support Southwest Tech’s wraparound support programs, which address real-life challenges that Iowa County students face—like food insecurity, transportation barriers, and mental health needs. These services are critical to student success, and we’re honored to help ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive.”

“These services are more than just support—they are lifelines,” said Angie Herting, director of development and major gifts at Southwest Tech. “Thanks to the United Fund of Iowa County, we can ensure that students from Iowa County receive the comprehensive support they need to succeed in school and life.” 

Southwest Tech serves students across Iowa County, including communities like Dodgeville, Mineral Point, Barneveld, and Highland. With this funding, students from Iowa County will benefit from resources that help them stay in school, graduate on time, and contribute to their communities.

| Southwest Wisconsin Technical College, is one of 16 institutions that comprise the Wisconsin Technical College System. The college was recently named the winner of the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence. Southwest Tech offers more than 60 programs in a wide variety of disciplines. Courses are offered on campus, online, HyFlex and in a blended format. The college provides apprenticeship, certificate, technical diploma, and associate degree programs that respond to district workforce needs and prepare student for family-sustaining jobs and career advancement. |
