Course Descriptions
Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers
- Hours: 4
- Prerequisite: None
- The BLS for Healthcare Provider Course is designed to teach the skills of CPR for victims of all ages (including ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen), use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO). It is intended for participants who provide health care to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings. This is a required course for many of our health care program students.
HeartCode BLS (Blended Option)
- Self-paced online
- Prerequisite: None
- HeartCode BLS is the AHA’s blended learning delivery method for the BLS Course. HeartCode blended learning delivers high-quality resuscitation education, regardless of where providers are located, and gives them more control to complete the course at their own pace. Providers first
- Complete the online portion of HeartCode BLS and then complete a hands-on skills session with an AHA BLS Instructor or on a simulation station.
Heartcode BLS Skills Evaluation
- Hours: Approximately 30 minutes
- Prerequisite: Heartcode BLS
- Heartcode BLS skills evaluation is the in-person, hands-on skills testing session that follows the online learning component of the AHA's Heartcode BLS course, and it's required to obtain the official BLS Provider eCard. During this session, which uses a voice-assisted manikin (VAM) or a certified AHA instructor, you'll demonstrate competency in high-quality chest compressions, effective ventilation, AED use, and other key BLS skills, including adult, child, and infant CPR.
Heartsaver First Aid
- Hours: 4
- Prerequisite: None
- The Heartsaver First Aid course teaches rescuers to effectively recognize and treat adult emergencies in the critical first minutes until emergency medical services personnel arrive—skills are assessed through an exam required to obtain the course completion card.
Heartsaver CPR AED Adult, Child, and Infant
- Hours: 2-4 hours depending on optional lessons
- Prerequisite: None
- Heartsaver CPR AED is designed for individuals with limited or no medical training who require a course completion card in CPR and AED use to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a course completion card, valid for two years.
Heartsaver First Aid with CPR and AED
- Hours: 6
- Prerequisite: None
- The course provides the skills to effectively assess and maintain life from the critical minutes immediately following an emergency until the arrival of emergency medical services personnel. The course offers a complete health and safety training solution for First Aid, CPR, and AED. A skill exam is required to receive the completion card.
