College Prep

You need College Prep course(s) if you meet one of the following criteria:

Students are able to register for College Prep courses during their interview session with their advisor, or they can self-register through their MySWTC account at any time.

Be sure to check your Academic Planner (completed during your initial advising session) and use the information on "College Prep Needed" to register for the appropriate College Prep Summer classes or College Prep Fall classes needed.

Veteran Students

Priority Registration for Veterans

Wisconsin state statute gives priority registration to veterans and service members attending U.W. and W.T.C.S colleges starting spring semester 2014. To abide by the Law, Southwest Tech allows documented Veterans priority registration the day before all other student registration begins.

Registration is held during the following times of the year. See the Southwest Tech Calendar & Events for exact dates and times.

  • Continuing Student Veterans
    • fall and summer registration held mid-April
    • spring registration held mid-November
  • New Student Veterans
    • fall registration held mid-June
    • spring registration held early December
  • Waitlist Student Veterans
    • fall registration held mid-July
    • spring registration held early December

Format options include self-registration online or a published walk-in day with an advisor.

Continuing Students

You are a continuing student if you will be completing your degree requirements during the upcoming academic year.

Registration is held during the following times of the year. See the Southwest Tech Calendar & Events for exact dates and times.

  • For fall and summer classes: mid-April
  • For spring classes: mid-November

Format options include self-registration online, program time scheduled with advisors, or a published walk-in day with an advisor.

Continuing Students in University Transfer Liberal Arts

Registration for Nicolet begins (if weekend, available the following Monday):

  • Spring classes: October 15
  • Summer classes: February 15
  • Fall classes: March 15

The format is a scheduled joint advising appointment with Southwest Tech and Nicolet advisors. Contact Southwest Tech Advising/Counseling Receptionist.

New Students

You are a new student if you have been offered a permanent slot in your program for the upcoming academic year. It does not matter if you have taken classes at Southwest Tech in the past.

Registration is held during the following times of the year. See the Southwest Tech Calendar & Events for exact dates and times.

  • Fall registration is held the 2nd week in June
  • Spring registration is held the 1st week in December

You can do self-registration online or sign up for a session on campus by using your student portal. First open your MySWTC account and then sign up for a registration session. View directions on how to sign up for a registration session.

Waitlist Students

You are a waitlist student until you have been offered a permanent program slot. At that time, you will become a new student regardless of how long you have been taking classes at Southwest Tech.

  • the 2nd week of July
  • the 1st week in December

You can do self-registration online or sign up for a session on campus by using your student portal. First open your MySWTC account and then sign up for a registration session. View directions on how to sign up for a registration session.

Waitlist students should review their program curriculum on the Class List . Be aware that many core program classes will not have openings. Typically, general education courses have openings.

Youth Option Students

Students applying to take courses through Youth Options should apply to their school district using the PI-8700-A form by March 1 for the fall semester and by October 1 for the spring semester. For more information on the Youth Options application process, including the PI-8700-A application, visit Wisconsin's Youth Options Program website.

School districts will forward approved applications to Southwest Tech, and students will be informed by Southwest Tech regarding registration for courses through Youth Options. Registration is held during the following times of the year. See the Southwest Tech Calendar & Events for exact dates and times.

  • the 2nd week of July
  • the 1st week in December

Individual advising sessions are scheduled for continuing Youth Options students and group sessions are held for 1st time Youth Options students.

Course Options

Students applying to Southwest Tech through Course Options should submit the PI-8900 form to Southwest Tech no later than six weeks before the requested course is scheduled to begin. For more information on the Course Options application process, including the PI-8900 application, visit Wisconsin's Course Options Program website.

Upon approval from Southwest Tech and the student's school district, the student will be contacted with instructions to complete registration for the courses. This will occur no later than one week before the course is scheduled to begin.

Open Registration

Registration is open to the public after all approved program students have registered for their courses.

  • Fall semester: the 2nd week of July
  • Spring semester: the 1st week in December
  • Summer registration occurs in mid-April
