  • Welding Academy
  • Southwest Tech Welding Academy – Summer 2025

    What is the Welding Academy?

    Southwest Tech’s Welding Academy provides students with the opportunity to complete courses from the first two semesters of the Welding program, preparing them for multiple career pathways:

    • Workforce Entry: Find employment as a carbon steel GMAW welder.
    • Further Education: Continue your education to finish their full Welding technical diploma.
    • Additional Credentials: Enhance other technical programs such as Ag Power or Electro-Mechanical Technology with welding skills.

    Who is it for?
    Southwest Tech is partnering with Southwest Wisconsin Alliance for Growth (SWAG) in Manufacturing to provide dislocated workers with fast, high-quality training for a new career in welding.

    Program Overview

    • Duration: 8 weeks
    • Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 7:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
    • Dates: June 2 – July 31 (No classes the week of July 4)
    • Enrollment Cap: 14 students
    • Credits Earned: 6 college credits

    Students may also have the opportunity to participate in paid training with a regional manufacturing employer in the afternoons.

    Cost & Funding

    • • For qualified applicants 100% of the six college credits are covered through WIG funding, with tuition and textbooks included. These courses include:
      • Equipment Safety
      • Blueprint Reading
      • GMAW Equipment
    • Students are responsible for funding the remaining 3 credits, unless additional funding sources become available.

  • Summer English Language Learning Pre-College Program
  • Date: June 15 – June 19

    Location: Southwest Tech

    Who's it for?
    High school and incoming college students

    What's it about?
    This program is designed to help students improve their English language skills before starting college. It includes 16 hours of ELL instruction aimed at providing learners with the tools they need to succeed in college and beyond. Participants will also enjoy fun activities planned throughout the week.

  • Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Academy
  • What is the CNC Academy?

    Southwest Tech’s CNC Academy gives students the opportunity to learn computer-aided machining of 2 dimension parts using CAM software. This hands-on course introduces real-world skills needed for entry-level positions in advanced manufacturing. Students will use CAM software to create and machine pockets, slots, bosses, holes and engraved details in CNC milled parts. Instruction includes both in-person CNC lab training and online coursework.

    Who is it for?

    Southwest Tech is partnering with the Southwest Wisconsin Alliance for Growth (SWAG) in Manufacturing to provide dislocated and underemployed workers with high-quality, short-term training in CNC machining.

    Program Overview

    • Course Title: Computer Aided Machining Mill (31-420-349)
    • Credits Earned: 1 college credit (36 total hours)
    • Schedule:
      • June 9–10 | 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. (In person) + 4.5 hours online
      • June 16–17 | 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. (In person) + 4.5 hours online
      • June 23–24 | 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. (In person)
      • June 25 | 8 a.m. – 11 a.m. (In person)
    • Technology Support: A Southwest Tech laptop will be provided if students do not have access to the required technology.
    • Enrollment Cap: 15 Students
